Renowned Maldivian singer Mohamed Majid, known as Mezzo, passed away Wednesday while undergoing treatment at Indira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH). He was 59 years old.
Majid was a prominent figure in Maldivian music, gaining popularity in the 1990s and 2000s with his compositions. He was also the first Maldivian artist to perform on the international music channel MTV.
He had a repertoire that included well-known songs such as Elhikandumathi, Uduntharithah, Masthee, Visnaa Visnaa, and Roadhi.
In an interview with Hotelier Maldives a decade ago, Majid stated that he had been involved in music since the age of nine. He was proficient in multiple instruments, including drums, guitar, and keyboard.
