Maldives submits documents to ICJ in Myanmar genocide case

Attorney General’s Office has submitted its documents to the International Court of Justice (ICJ) in the case against Myanmar.
The Gambia filed a complaint with the ICJ on 11 November 2019 regarding alleged atrocities committed against the Rohingya Muslims.
The ICJ accepted the Maldives’ motion to intervene in the case on 3 March, the Attorney General’s Office stated. The documents were submitted last Friday.
As a party to the case, the Maldives’ observations focus on:

The interpretation of provisions of the Convention on the Prevention and Punishment of the Crime of Genocide.

The definition of the duty to punish genocide and the responsibility to address the crime.
The Attorney General’s Office stated that the Maldives will continue to support international efforts to seek justice for the Rohingya Muslims and uphold the Genocide Convention.
