Deadline extended for solar power plant expressions of interest
The project will be developed on a design, build, finance, own, operate, and transfer basis.
The Ministry of Finance has extended the deadline for submitting Expressions of Interest (EOI) for the construction of a 100-150 MW solar photovoltaic (PV) power plant in the Male region.
The project will be developed on a design, build, finance, own, operate, and transfer basis.
The initial announcement was made on 26 February, with the original submission deadline set for 1 pm today. However, the deadline has now been extended until 1 pm on Wednesday. The ministry stated that the extension aims to allow sufficient time for interested parties to prepare the required documents and respond to the large number of queries submitted so far.
The project includes a battery storage system to support the solar PV supply and meet grid demand in the Greater Malé area. The information paper related to the project is available for download on the Finance Ministry’s website.
The Board of Investments approved the solar power project, named Project Solar City, last month under the Special Economic Zone (SEZ) framework. The first investment permit under the SEZ was issued on 24 April to a joint venture between Canada’s Abrazas Power Corp. and Sangro Power Supply Co. Ltd.
Under the issued permit, a 100 MW solar PV project will be developed 4-5 km from Uppsala, with an interconnection submarine cable linking the battery storage system to the grid.
