Three government ministers have been summoned to parliament for questioning regarding three issues: the alleged purchase of military missiles, accusations of intimidation against a journalist, and concerns over money printing.

Galolhu South MP Meekail Naseem submitted written questions to the ministers, demanding clarity on these matters, which have sparked widespread public debate and political controversy.

The three ministers summoned for questioning are:

  • Defence Minister Ghassan Maumoon – Regarding alleged discussions about acquiring military missiles.

  • Finance Minister Moosa Zameer – Over concerns that the Maldives Monetary Authority (MMA) is injecting new money into the economy through a land purchase deal.

  • Homeland Minister Ali Ihsan – Regarding allegations that President Mohamed Muizzu personally threatened a journalist.

Ghassan is expected to clarify whether the Maldives government is in talks to acquire military missiles. Speculation about such a purchase has been circulating on social media, raising concerns about the potential militarisation of the country.

Zameer faces questions about the Maldives Monetary Authority’s (MMA) decision to allocate MVR 14 billion to purchase land in Hulhumale from the Housing Development Corporation (HDC). The opposition has criticised this move, arguing that it amounts to printing new money and could have serious economic repercussions, such as inflation and currency devaluation.

Ihsan is expected to address allegations that President Muizzu threatened Adhadhu newspaper’s CEO, Hussain Fiyaz Moosa. The incident allegedly took place on March 14, at 7:04 pm, when the president reportedly called Fiyaz and issued threats. Adhadhu has since filed a formal complaint regarding the incident, increasing pressure on the administration to respond.
