President Mohamed Muizzu has decided to bring Hulhumendhoo under the jurisdiction of GA. Maamendhoo.
The decision was made through a decree issued on Saturday, in accordance with the President’s responsibility to determine the jurisdiction of city and island councils within the country's administrative framework.

Hulhumendhoo, a land area of approximately 5.40 hectares, is located within the same lagoon as Maamendhoo.
The island was removed from Maamendhoo’s jurisdiction in 2018 and designated for tourism development. However, development efforts did not proceed as planned.
