President Mohamed Muizzu on Friday assured Maldivian students studying abroad that the government will resolve ongoing issues related to the delay in disbursing student loans and scholarships.

Concerns have been raised by students in several countries, including the United Kingdom, regarding the delay in receiving funds provided through government-issued loans and scholarships.

During a meeting with Maldivian students in the UK Friday, President Muizzu addressed the matter directly. A video of the meeting was later published by the President’s Office on social media platforms.

The President stated that efforts have been underway in recent days to resolve the issues, though some challenges remain. He said the government is working to improve the overall system to ensure that stipends and tuition fees are processed in a timely manner.

Muizzu gave his assurance that the government would address the concerns of students—whether they are studying on scholarships, loans, or funding their education independently.

“The government will prioritise resolving any difficulties faced by Maldivian students abroad,” said President Muizzu. “No matter where you are studying, attention must be given to Maldivian students.”

He also acknowledged concerns raised by students over delayed responses to emails sent to the Ministry of Higher Education. He said that inefficiencies in communication and administrative processes would be reviewed and addressed.

“One of the most common issues brought to my attention is the lack of timely responses from government agencies. We will take steps to improve these areas,” he said.

President Muizzu added that the government is working to enhance internal systems to ensure faster responses and timely disbursement of funds.

In the same meeting, the President officially handed over the Rosemont Avenue building in the UK to the Maldives Students’ Association UK (MSA). The building had previously been used by Maldivian students living in the country. Keys to the property were presented to the students during the meeting.
