Ministry of Health on Wednesday signed agreements to develop three regional hospitals—Naifaru, Ungoofaaru, and Thinadhoo—to tertiary-level facilities.
The signing ceremony, held at the Ministry of Health, marked the official launch of development projects for Raa Atoll Ungoofaaru Regional Hospital, Lhaviyani Naifaru Atoll Hospital, and Gaafu Dhaalu Thinadhoo Dr. Abdul Samad Memorial Hospital.
The Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) was awarded contracts for the construction of new hospital buildings in both Thinadhoo and Ungoofaaru. Meanwhile, RDC was entrusted with the task of upgrading existing infrastructure at Naifaru Hospital.

Naifaru Hospital Upgrade:

The project includes the modernisation of key departments, notably the labor room complex and intensive care unit (ICU), to meet tertiary care standards.
Once completed, the hospitals are expected to boost access to advanced medical care for residents in the northern, central, and southern regions of the country, reducing the need for travel to Malé for specialised treatment.
