President Mohamed Muizzu has said that the sea is not only a resource but a foundation of life for the Maldives.

He made the statement in a post marking World Ocean Day.

President Muizzu stated that the condition of the world’s health is linked to the health of marine ecosystems. He highlighted that climate change is increasing ocean temperatures, affecting fish stocks and contributing to coastal erosion.

He said World Ocean Day should be used as an opportunity to renew efforts to protect oceans, calling on the global community to recognise and act on this issue.

“For an island country like the Maldives, marine resources are not just a resource—they are the basis of life,” President Muizzu said.
