Housing Development Corporation (HDC) has decided to allocate a separate area as a private beach for guesthouses operating in Hulhumale.
HDC said on Wednesday that it was a decision taken by the corporation at the request of economic minister Fayyaz Ismail to promote small and medium enterprises.
The private beach will be developed for guesthouses in Hulhumale at the beach site next to the water theme park being constructed in Hulhumale Phase I.
HDC said that guesthouse businesses currently have a significant stake in the tourism sector of Maldives.
"The government has been working to promote small and medium enterprises in many ways. We will continue to extend the full support of this corporation in this endeavour," HDC said in the statement.
