President Dr Mohamed Muizzu has announced that the monthly allowance for Huffaz will be doubled from July 1 this year, fulfilling a pledge from his presidential campaign.
In a post on his official 'X' account, President Dr Muizzu stressed that training Huffaz and recognising their importance is crucial to nurturing a deeper love for the Quran among the public.
With the change, the allowance will increase to MVR 4,000 from MVR 2,000 per month.
With the increased allowance, the government aims to support and encourage more individuals to memorise the Quran, ensuring the continuation of this noble tradition.
Additionally, the government is actively working to establish waqf structures to provide sustainable funding for Quranic education and related programmes. This effort forms part of a broader national strategy to enhance understanding and recitation of the Quran.
The decision to double the Huffaz allowance aligns with the government’s manifesto pledges and reflects a sincere, ongoing commitment to Islamic values and education.
By strengthening support for Huffaz, the initiative also seeks to foster deeper public engagement with the Quran and contribute to the enrichment of the nation’s spiritual life.
