Starting next Sunday, all road vehicles except two-wheelers will require a permit from the Ministry of Transport before they can be imported into the Maldives.

This new requirement comes as part of an amendment to the Road Motor Vehicle Registration Rules made in April. As per the revised regulations, anyone seeking to register a vehicle in the Maldives must now submit a valid vehicle import permit issued by the Ministry.

The Ministry of Transport has announced that from July 13 onwards, only those with this permit will be allowed to bring in vehicles other than two-wheelers. The permit can be applied for online through the Ministry's official portal.

In addition to the permit, those importing four-wheeled vehicles must also provide a garage letter, confirming that they have an appropriate parking space available.
