The Judicial Service Commission (JSC) has decided to temporarily assign Justice Abdulla Hameed to oversee the administration of the Supreme Court following the retirement of Chief Justice Ahmed Muthasim Adnan next Monday.
The decision was made during a JSC meeting held on Thursday. Chief Justice Muthasim submitted his retirement on 8 May.
Justice Hameed was appointed to the Supreme Court bench on 11 June last year. His appointment followed the removal of former justices Mahaz Ali Zahir and Azmiralda Zahir from the bench.
Justice Hameed completed his higher education in Sharia and Law at Al-Azhar University in Egypt. He previously served as a judge at the Civil Court and later at the High Court for over 14 years.
His tenure at the High Court ended after the JSC forwarded a case to Parliament, alleging that he had acquired a flat outside established procedures.
