Government's decision to allocate a block grant from next year's budget to the judiciary will expedite the work of the judiciary, Supreme Court said Thursday.
President Mohamed Muizzu said Thursday that the Cabinet had decided to allocate a fixed percentage of revenue from the 2026 budget to the judiciary. He made the announcement Thursday morning in a post on X, which was later reposted by the official account of the Supreme Court.
The Supreme Court expressed gratitude to the President for providing the legal authority required to make the decision sustainable.
In a statement, the Court noted that the allocation would support the development and independence of the judiciary. It further stated that the decision would help address financial challenges and enable the judiciary to improve the delivery of justice.
