President Mohamed Muizzu has stated that the New York Declaration reflects the international community’s willingness to protect the Palestinian people from Israeli military actions and to work toward restoring long-term peace and economic stability in Palestine.

In a statement issued Thursday, President Muizzu welcomed the outcome of the meeting held at the United Nations headquarters in New York, aimed at finding a permanent solution to the Palestinian conflict.

President Muizzu said the meeting demonstrated international recognition of Palestine as an independent state and reaffirmed support for its full membership at the United Nations.

The New York Declaration, concluded following a French-Saudi-led initiative that began last Monday, represents the support of UN member states for the permanent sovereignty of the Palestinian people, the recognition of a Palestinian state, and the restoration of full membership status, according to the statement.

The President noted that the declaration also underlined a commitment by the international community to support efforts to rebuild Palestine and assist in securing economic sustainability and long-term security.

He reiterated that the Government and people of Maldives have continuously supported the establishment of an independent Palestinian state, with East Jerusalem as its capital, based on the 1967 borders.

President Muizzu further stated that the Maldives would continue to support Palestine in accordance with United Nations resolutions and international law.
