Mohamed Shakeel, Managing Director of the Maldives Hajj Corporation, and three members of the corporation’s management team are shareholders in a private business company.
The company, Shine Bright Pvt Ltd, was registered in October 2024. According to information available on the Ministry of Economic Development’s business portal, the shareholders of Shine Bright are:
-
Mohamed Shakeel – Managing Director, Hajj Corporation
-
Mohamed Shihab – Deputy Managing Director, Hajj Corporation
-
Najeel Ahmed – Chief Operating Officer, Hajj Corporation
-
Riffath Abdulla – Head of Legal, Hajj Corporation
When asked about the matter, Shakeel said the company was a personal venture operated with long-time friends.
“We are not doing any business related to Hajj or tourism. We are doing just normal business,” Shakeel said.
Although Shakeel referred to the co-owners as long-time friends, records show that Shine Bright Pvt Ltd was incorporated after Shakeel and Shihab assumed positions at the Hajj Corporation.
Najeel Ahmed also held the position of COO at the Hajj Corporation during the previous administration.
