Power outages were reported across Malé and its satellite town Hulhumalé on Saturday.
State Electric Company (STELCO), which supplies electricity to the capital region, said the disruption was caused by a technical issue.
“The problem is being resolved and power is being restored. We apologise for any inconvenience,” STELCO said in a statement.
Electricity has since been restored to some parts of Malé and Hulhumalé, though STELCO has not announced a timeframe for full restoration.
