Turkey hands over missile-capable vessel to Maldives
The ship was formally handed over by Turkish Navy Fleet Commander Admiral Kadir Yildiz to Major General Hilmy, who accepted it on behalf of the MNDF.

President Dr Mohamed Muizzu, Commander-in-Chief of the Maldives National Defence Force (MNDF), graced the handover ceremony of a Türkiye Navy ship, Dharumavantha, gifted to the MNDF.
Minister of Defence Mohamed Ghassan Maumoon and Chief of Defence Force, Major General Ibrahim Hilmy, welcomed the President upon his arrival at the event, held at the Hulhumalé MPL area, on Friday.
The ship was formally handed over by Turkish Navy Fleet Commander Admiral Kadir Yildiz to Major General Hilmy, who accepted it on behalf of the MNDF.
During the ceremony, President Dr Muizzu unveiled the ship’s name, viewed a video presentation, and signed the ship’s guest book.
Donated by Türkiye, the vessel is the largest addition in the MNDF’s history. It represents a major advancement in the Maldives’ defence capabilities and reinforces the nation’s role as a responsible member of the international community, committed to safeguarding security in the Indian Ocean region.
