Parliament on Monday approved the appointment of Mohamed Mujthaba as the President of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) and Mohamed Naseeh as its Vice-President.

On 7 September, the President submitted a motion to the Parliament seeking approval for the appointments. The motion was tabled at an extraordinary session of the Parliament on Monday and referred to the Independent Institutions Committee for consideration.

The committee decided to endorse both appointments without further interviews, noting that Mujthaba and Naseeh had already been approved as CSC members following assessments of their education, experience, and interviews. The recommendation was unanimously supported.

The Parliament then voted in line with the committee’s decision. Mujthaba was confirmed as President with 68 votes in favour and no votes against. Naseeh was appointed Vice-President with 64 votes in favour and one against.

Mujthaba became a member of the CSC in April. He holds a Bachelor of Laws from the Maldives College of Higher Education, previously served as State Minister at the President’s Office under former President Abdulla Yameen, and represented Hanimaadhoo constituency in the 17th Parliament.

Naseeh, who had been serving as CSC Chairman, was earlier removed from that post and appointed Deputy Commissioner. His term expired on 3 September, and he was reappointed to the Commission on 7 September.

Earlier in the day, the Parliament, where the PNC holds a super-majority, began proceedings to remove Naseeh from the chairmanship. The move was later withdrawn.
