Police are investigating the wife of Shaheeb Ibrahim, 47, of Lighthouse/GA. Villingili, for allegedly helping him evade arrest.
Shaheeb, who has been previously arrested in several major drug-related cases, was wanted under a Criminal Court order to be produced before the court by 6 pm on 23 September.
Police confirmed that Shaheeb’s wife was arrested on Thursday on suspicion of assisting him in avoiding arrest. She was released from custody the same day.
Following her arrest, Shaheeb surrendered at the police headquarters and was taken into custody. Police said the case involving his wife is under investigation but did not provide further details.
Shaheeb previously served as a coordinator at the Ministry of Housing during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen. He also contested the last parliamentary elections.
In addition to the current case, police have earlier linked Shaheeb to narcotics seized from an Iranian vessel.
