A minor under 18 years of age was also charged in the case but was acquitted by the Juvenile Court.
Shaheeb, who had been wanted in relation to a separate court order earlier this week, surrendered to police on Thursday night after the arrest of his wife. Police are investigating allegations that she assisted him in evading arrest.
Shaheeb previously served as a coordinator at the Ministry of Housing during the administration of former President Abdulla Yameen. He also contested the last parliamentary elections.
In addition to this conviction, police have previously alleged his involvement in a separate case involving drugs seized from an Iranian vessel.
