The national drug policy will be completed by the end of next month, Minister of Homeland Security Ali Ihsan said on Monday.
The minister was responding in writing to a question from Galolhu North MP Mohamed Ibrahim of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) regarding the timeline for the completion of the policy.
Reading the minister’s response during Monday’s sitting of parliament, the the minister noted that the first draft of the National Drug Policy has already been prepared with assistance from the United Nations.
Minister Ihsan stated that the draft is based on international standards, and current work focuses on amending it to reflect the situation of drug use in the Maldives.
He added that police stations in island communities are working to gather additional information required for the policy.
“The National Drug Policy is targeted to be finalised by 30 November,” the minister wrote in his response.
