Former Attorney General Ibrahim Riffath, who served under the government of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), has been ordered to appear before the Anti-Corruption Commission (ACC).
Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih said on X that Riffath has been instructed to attend the ACC inquiry.
“This is part of a series of actions by the government to pressure MDP members through political influence over independent institutions. I urge ACC officials not to engage in politically motivated acts that may erode public trust,” Solih said.
Former Economic Minister and MDP Chairman Fayyaz Ismail also appeared before the ACC Monday. Former Finance Minister Ibrahim Ameer was summoned on Sunday in relation to a fraud case.
Fayyaz was questioned regarding compensation payments made to Swift Engineering. Education Minister Dr Aishath Ali has also been directed to appear before the ACC.
Solih previously stated that three ministers from his administration were being summoned at a time when, he said, the independence of Maldives’ institutions had been compromised.
