One of the five Bangladeshi nationals arrested on Thursday in connection with the illegal sale of waste oil used in resorts has been released after being produced in court.
According to police, the suspect was released because he is married to a Maldivian citizen and holds a valid visa. The remaining four suspects were remanded in custody for ten days.
The individuals arrested in the case are:
-
Al Amin Boyati, 37
-
Dulal Miah, 32
-
Mohamed Russel Mia
-
Manwar Hossain, 45

Mohamed Haroon
Court records show that Mohamed Haroon was released on the grounds that he is legally residing in the Maldives and works as a pickup driver, as claimed by other suspects in the case. His release was granted under conditions set by the court.
The remand order for the other four suspects stated that they were not in possession of valid visas to reside in the Maldives and might attempt to flee if released.
Police said the arrests were made following a tip-off that individuals were unloading oil containers from a dinghy near the Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) container jetty.
During the operation, authorities searched a boat, a dinghy, and a pickup truck, recovering 46 containers of used oil reportedly collected from resorts.
The investigation into the case is ongoing.
