A foreign crew member reported missing after a vessel ran aground near Kaashidhoo has been found dead, police have confirmed.
The incident occurred on Tuesday evening when the vessel Faisala ran aground on the reef off K. Kaashidhoo at around 8 p.m. Of the eleven people on board, ten were rescued while one person, a Bangladeshi national, was missing.
The missing man, identified as MD Alamgir, aged 30, was later found dead on the beach of the island during search operations. He was taken to the Kaashidhoo Health Centre, where he was pronounced dead.
Police said there were five Indian nationals and six other foreigners on board at the time of the incident. Videos circulated on social media showed a large section of the vessel submerged in the water.
Authorities are investigating the incident.
