Villimale’ to get sports complex, stadium upgrade

President Mohamed Muizzu announced plans for a sports complex, a FIFA-class stadium and 300 housing units as part of upcoming development projects in Villimale’.
He met residents of Villimale’ at Muhyidheen School Sunday night to hear their concerns and respond to questions. During the meeting, he outlined several projects scheduled to begin next year.
The President said a multi-sports complex will be established to host all indoor sports. The facility is planned to accommodate 1,200 people.
He also said the Villimale’ football stadium will be upgraded to meet FIFA standards. The project has been included in the national budget.
Out of the 3,000 flats planned by the Bank of Maldives, 300 three-bedroom units will be built in Villimale’. The President noted that he had pledged 500 flats for the island and said the 300 units mark the start of that commitment. He added that further housing will be provided in the future.
Additional housing projects are planned in Hulhumale’.
Villimale’ is also preparing for road modernisation works and the construction of a 100-bed tertiary hospital.
