President Mohamed Muizzu has announced significant progress in land reclamation efforts, confirming on his official X account that the dredger TSHD Prins Der Nederlanden arrived Tuesday and will begin operations in Hulhumalé Phase III Wednesday.
The vessel will operate alongside TSHD Oranji, which has already been mobilised in the area.
The President noted that bund wall works in Giraavaru Falhu will commence as soon as the Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) and other required formalities are completed.
Reclamation of Hulhumalé Phase III is expected to be completed by the end of next month. Once this phase is finalised, both dredgers will be deployed to Giraavaru Falhu, where land reclamation is anticipated to conclude within two to three months.
President Muizzu has previously stated that reclamation works across the Malé region, a key initiative aimed at addressing housing challenges in the area, are progressing swiftly, with further acceleration expected in December as additional dredgers are deployed.
