Maldives telethon raises over MVR 11 million for Sri Lankan relief

The telethon organised by Maldivian media outlets to support people affected by cyclone Ditwah in the neighbouring country of Sri Lanka ended on Monday, raising more than MVR 11 million.
The telethon, launched on Sunday and led by PSM, received significant contributions from the public, private companies and various agencies. Amounts collected include:

Donation boxes placed at multiple locations in Malé, Hulhumalé and Vilimalé have not yet been counted, and organisers expect the final total to increase once those contributions are tallied.
The telethon, which began Sunday morning and was originally scheduled to end on Sunday night, was extended until noon on Monday to allow more people to donate.
According to the Disaster Management Centre (DMC), cyclone Ditwah has resulted in 334 deaths in Sri Lannka, with 228 people reported missing.
