Maldives donates $50,000, canned tuna to flood-hit Lanka

The Maldives government has decided to donate USD 50,000 and 25,000 cases of canned tuna to Sri Lanka.
The Foreign Ministry said Saturday that the assistance will be provided to the people of Sri Lanka to recover from the damage caused by heavy rains linked to cyclone Ditwa.
The ministry said the decision reflects the close friendship between the two countries and expresses support for the people of Sri Lanka during the current situation.
The ministry stated that it hopes the assistance will offer some relief to affected Sri Lankans and support the work being carried out by the government.
More than 60 people have died, according to Sri Lanka’s Disaster Management Centre, following heavy rains and flooding in the Bay of Bengal. At least 34 people have died in landslides and hundreds of thousands have been affected by the rains.
