Sunny Umar has been arrested on suspicion of sexually assaulting minors from his wife’s family.
Umar, who operates a travel agency under the Maldives Halal Travel brand and manages hospitality-related media outlets, was accused after allegations surfaced in the media that he had abused three children from his wife’s family. The family subsequently filed a complaint with police.
He was brought before the FCP on Monday for questioning in connection with the allegations.
Umar left Maldives for India on Thursday after the case became public. He was presented to police at Velana International Airport on Monday.
According to police, he was arrested at the airport as he attempted to leave Maldives again after questioning.
Information obtained by Atoll Times indicates that the case involves three children:

Two girls and one boy

One of the girls and the boy are under 18

The other girl was allegedly assaulted before she turned 18
Police have not given further details as the investigation continues.
