Govt moves to criminalise gambling under Penal Code
Gambling is not currently listed as an offence under the existing Penal Code, which defines criminal conduct in the Maldives.
The government has decided to classify gambling and the operation of gambling establishments as criminal offences, President Mohamed Muizzu announced on Wednesday.
In a post on X, the President said he had submitted a bill to amend the Penal Code of the Maldives to include provisions that criminalise gambling activities.
“I have sent a bill to amend the Penal Code of the Maldives to make gambling and the operation of a gambling establishment a criminal offence,” the President wrote.
Gambling is not currently listed as an offence under the existing Penal Code, which defines criminal conduct in the Maldives.
