2 arrested over assault and throwing man into sea
They were identified as Ahmed Shareef, 50, of B. Hithaadhoo, and Ahmed Hathim, 49, of L. Isdhoo.
Police have arrested two men in connection with an incident in which a man was allegedly assaulted and thrown into the sea.
The arrests follow the circulation of a video on social media showing a man being attacked on a street after accusations of robbery. The footage shows the man being forced to remove his shirt, dragged along the street, and thrown into the sea. He is later seen being beaten on the road.
Police said on Saturday that two suspects were arrested under a court order. They were identified as Ahmed Shareef, 50, of B. Hithaadhoo, and Ahmed Hathim, 49, of L. Isdhoo.
According to police, both men were arrested on Friday and have been remanded in custody for 15 days pending further investigation.
