Shahid urges MDP unity ahead of council elections following party primary
Shahid urged all members of MDP to participate in the primary vote and to ensure the process is conducted peacefully.
Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) President Abdulla Shahid on Thursday called on party members to remain united in order to secure victory in the upcoming local council elections, following the party’s primary scheduled for Friday to select candidates.
In a video message shared on social media, Shahid urged all members of MDP to participate in the primary vote and to ensure the process is conducted peacefully.
He said he expected all candidates, including those who win the primary and their teams, to work together after the vote to campaign for the party in the council elections.
Shahid also addressed the broader political context, stating that voters should act collectively to bring change through the council elections.
He urged the public in the Maldives to support MDP candidates in the upcoming polls.
Voting in the MDP primary is scheduled to begin at 2 pm on Friday. A total of 14,000 party members are eligible to vote.
