The Elections Commission on Saturday opened the application period for candidates wishing to contest the local council and Women’s Development Committee elections scheduled for 4 April.
The application window will remain open from Saturday until the first of next month. The commission has introduced a dedicated online portal for the submission of candidacy forms.
According to the commission, applications may be submitted through the portal during official working hours. Submissions will be accepted from Saturday to Thursday between 8:30 am and 3:30 pm. On Fridays, applications may be submitted from 3:30 pm to 6:00 pm.
The commission said decisions on the acceptance of candidacies will also be communicated to applicants through the online portal.
The local council elections will be held to elect mayors and members of city councils, as well as presidents and members of island councils.
The Women’s Development Committee elections will elect chairpersons and members of the committees.
