The Jumhooree Party (JP) on Monday decided to support candidates of the People’s National Congress (PNC) in the upcoming local council and Women’s Development Committee elections.

The decision was taken at a meeting of the party’s council held on Monday. The council resolved that the JP would contest only the ADh. Maamigili constituency, which is represented by party leader Gasim Ibrahim.

The JP council also decided to support PNC candidates in other constituencies in the elections.

The local council and Women’s Development Committee elections are scheduled to be held on 4 April. The ruling PNC, the main opposition Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP), and The Democrats are contesting the polls.

Both the PNC and the MDP have announced candidates through their respective party primaries.
