Police probe killing of cat in Hoarafushi

Police are investigating the killing of a cat in HA. Hoarafushi, according to the Maldives Police Service.
Authorities said the animal was allegedly tortured and killed on Thursday night.
In a message sent to media groups on Sunday, police said three individuals have been questioned in connection with the case and statements have been taken.
Police said the investigation is ongoing and did not provide further details.
Under Article 625 of the Penal Code, cruelty to an animal is a criminal offence.
The offence is classified as a third-degree felony.
If convicted, the basic sentence for the offence is one month and six days in prison. The maximum penalty is three months of imprisonment.
