Malé council cancels tender for Sinamalé and Hiyaa repairs

Malé City Council has cancelled a tender seeking a contractor to carry out maintenance and repair works at the Sinamalé and Malé Hiyaa flats.

The tender, announced last Thursday, invited bids for a one-year contract covering maintenance and repair works at the housing complexes. A separate tender was also issued for servicing, repair and maintenance of lifts at Sinamalé Blocks 3 and 4 and Malé Hiyaa Blocks 1 and 2.

The opportunity was open to registered Maldivian companies, partnerships and locally licensed businesses, with a submission deadline set for the 5th of next month.

The council cancelled both tenders on Monday. No reason was provided.

On the same day, the Ministry of Construction, Housing and Infrastructure announced a separate tender seeking consultancy services to assess the condition of the buildings.

According to the ministry, the selected consultant will carry out structural, architectural, mechanical and electrical evaluations of the Sinamalé and Malé Hiyaa buildings to determine their condition and identify safety risks to residents.

The consultant will also provide technical information required to appoint contractors for maintenance and repair works. This includes safety guidelines, engineering specifications, drawings and repair methods.

Interested parties have been asked to submit proposals by 1:00 p.m. on the 31st of this month.

Redevelopment of the Sinamalé and Malé Hiyaa sites through a new housing project was among the pledges of President Dr Mohamed Muizzu and had been approved during his tenure as Mayor of Malé.

During a meeting with residents in Galolhu last December, concerns were raised regarding the condition of the buildings and the lack of repairs.

Following the meeting, the President decided to provide a payment of MVR 100,000 to each flat owner and to proceed with an assessment to facilitate repair works.
