Nasheed calles for PNF, MDP to cooperate in council election
Nasheed said that all PNF members should vote for MDP candidates where the party is not contesting a seat.
Former President Mohamed Nasheed on Tuesday called on his opposition MDP and the People's National Front (PNF) to work together to win seats in the upcoming local council elections.
Nasheed, who has rejoined the MDP after an absence from politics, made the request in a video released in support of a candidate contesting the Gdh. Hoadhehdhoo council.
In the video, Nasheed said that all PNF members should vote for MDP candidates where the party is not contesting a seat. He also said that MDP members and supporters would vote for PNF candidates where there is no MDP candidate.
“We will hopefully win this election together,” Nasheed said.
Nasheed’s call for cooperation comes as former President Abdulla Yameen stated that he supports all candidates other than those contesting under the ruling PNC in this election.
Yaameen said that, given the current situation in the Maldives, as Nasheed had said earlier, “Aneh Dhivehiraajje” had to be found.
