Former President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih on Saturday said the outcome of the ongoing elections would reflect public sentiment towards the government.

Speaking to the media after casting his ballot at Jamaluddin School, Solih said interactions during the campaign period indicated dissatisfaction among voters.

Three polls are being conducted on Saturday. These include Local Council Elections, Women’s Development Committee (WDC) Elections, and a referendum on whether Presidential and Parliamentary elections should be held at the same time.

Solih said the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) faced challenges during the campaign period but noted that feedback from the public pointed to concerns regarding the government’s performance.

“I have observed discontent with this government across the country. I believe that the citizens will demonstrate this through today’s vote,” he said.

He also criticised the decision to hold the referendum alongside the council elections, stating that the combination could lead to issues in the voting process.

Solih said he expects the MDP to secure results across the three polls.
