Dr Salma Rasheed has been instructed to return to the Maldives to attend to official matters at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, according to information confirmed to Dhauru.

Dr Salma, who serves as the Maldives’ Permanent Representative to the United Nations, is currently based in Geneva, Switzerland.

The directive follows the circulation of an audio recording in which her sister, Asma Rasheed, was allegedly heard criticising the government.

Subsequently, actions were taken against members of the family earlier this week. These included the dismissal of Mohamed Hussain Shareef, Asma’s son, from his post as Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.

Dr Salma was also issued a dismissal letter on the same day. However, information obtained indicates that the letter was later withdrawn and she has been reinstated to her position.

An official from the Ministry of Foreign Affairs said Dr Salma has been requested to return to the Maldives for official purposes. The official did not provide details on the nature of the assignment or the duration of her stay.

No further information has been disclosed regarding the matter.
