Foreign minister Khaleel resigns
The change follows the resignation of Minister at the President’s Office Ali Arif on Monday.
Foreign Minister Dr Abdulla Khaleel resigned from his post on Tuesday following a request from President Dr Mohamed Muizzu.
Dr Khaleel was appointed Minister of Foreign Affairs on September 30, 2024, after serving as Minister of Health. He is the second individual to hold the post under the current administration.
Prior to his resignation, Dr Khaleel served as Chairperson of the Crisis Committee formed in response to developments in the Middle East.
His resignation follows the departure of Ali Arif from his role as a Minister at the President’s Office on Monday.
The changes come alongside adjustments in state-owned enterprises following the outcome of recent local council elections.
Mohamed Rishwan, Managing Director of Maldives Ports Limited (MPL), resigned last week at the request of the government. Farhath Shaheer was dismissed as Managing Director and Chief Executive Officer of Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO). Abdul Matheen resigned as Managing Director of Male’ Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC). Hussain Didi was dismissed as Managing Director of AgroNet, while Mohamed Najah was dismissed as Managing Director of Fenaka Corporation.
Hussain Fahmy has been appointed as Managing Director of MWSC on Tuesday. He previously served as Managing Director of STELCO and as a Minister at the President’s Office.
