President Mohamed Muizzu has appointed Minister of Finance and Public Enterprises Moosa Zameer as President of the Board of the Local Government Authority (LGA).

The appointment follows the dissolution of the Ministry of Cities, Local Government and Public Works and the transfer of its functions to the Ministry of Finance.

According to a statement issued on the LGA website on Thursday, the appointment was made earlier in the day.

The position was previously held by Adam Shareef, who served as Minister of the former Cities Ministry.

The LGA Board consists of nine members, including the Board President and the Chief Executive Officer. The Board President is responsible for convening and presiding over meetings, while the Chief Executive Officer oversees the administration of the authority. Both roles are appointed by the President.

Under Section 60 of the Decentralisation Act, the President of the LGA is the Cabinet Minister responsible for the ministry under which the authority’s mandate falls.
