Parliament approves cabinet reshuffle; Zameer and Hassan top, Ali Shareef lowest

The People’s Majlis on Wednesday approved all ministers recently appointed by President Mohamed Muizzu following a cabinet reshuffle.
Earlier this month, after setbacks in opinion polls and local council elections, President Muizzu reduced the cabinet from 20 ministers to 15. Four new ministers were appointed, while the mandates of several existing ministers were revised and they were reappointed.
The President submitted the names of the nominees to the People's Majlis on Sunday. After review, the Government Oversight Committee recommended approval for all nominees on Monday.
The committee’s report was put to a vote during Wednesday’s sitting.
Newly appointed ministers approved were:

Heena Waleed – Minister of Arts, Culture and Heritage

Ali Shareef – Minister of Climate Change, Environment and Energy

Iruthisham Adam – Minister of Foreign Affairs

Geela Ali – Minister of Health, Family and Welfare

Hassan Rasheed – Minister of Defence and National Service
Reappointed ministers with revised mandates were:

Moosa Zameer – Finance and Public Enterprises

Ali Ihusaan – Homeland Security, Labour and Technology

Dr Ismail Shafeeu – Education, Higher Education and Skills Development

Mohamed Saeed – Economic Development, Transport and Trade

Dr Mohamed Shaheem Ali Saeed – Islamic Affairs and Endowment

Mohamed Ameen – Tourism and Civil Aviation

Dr Abdulla Muththalib – Infrastructure, Housing and Urban Development

Abdulla Rafiu – Youth, Empowerment and Fitness

Ahmed Shiyam – Fisheries, Agriculture and Ocean Resources
Most nominees were approved with more than 70 votes.
Zameer and Hassan Rasheed received the highest support with 76 votes each.
Ali Shareef received the lowest approval tally with 64 votes, with 13 members voting against his nomination following criticism over past social media remarks.
Heena Waleed also received 64 votes, while Mohamed Saeed received 65 votes.
