A fire occurred at Feydhoo School in Addu Wednesday and was brought under control following a response by emergency services and members of the public.

The incident began outside the school library. The fire was extinguished at 08:56 with support from the island fire station and bystanders.

In a statement, the school said no students or employees were injured. It added that some firefighters sustained injuries and expressed wishes for their recovery.

The statement noted that students and staff were moved to designated areas in line with the school’s emergency plan.

The school also said that assistance was provided by staff, members of the public, the island office, the Maldives National Defence Force and other government bodies. It thanked the island office, MNDF and Fenaka employees for their support during the response.
