The Kulhudhuffushi City Council on Tuesday announced regulations for participants taking part in the upcoming Eid-al-Adha “Mashi Maali” parade in Kulhudhuffushi.

The annual parade is one of the main events held during Eid celebrations in Kulhudhuffushi and is known for displays featuring “Maali” figures and commentary on current social and political issues.

In its announcement, the council stated that all entries must comply with public social standards and community guidelines.

The council outlined several requirements for participants, including:

  • ensuring all displays conform to social and ethical standards;

  • ensuring performances and costumes are consistent with Islamic principles; and

  • refraining from using the names or photographs of specific individuals in parade entries.

The council also stated that participants would be personally responsible for the content presented in their entries.

Despite the restrictions, the council encouraged public participation in the event.

“We welcome participants of all ages to join the parade,” the council said.

The announcement comes amid public discussion surrounding a documentary released by Adhadhu containing allegations against President Mohamed Muizzu.

The Criminal Court has issued an injunction prohibiting discussion of matters related to the documentary until a final ruling is delivered in the case.
