PNC parliamentary group moves to remove Deputy Speaker Nazim
The decision comes shortly after reports emerged that President Muizzu removed Nazim from a WhatsApp group used to issue instructions to PNC MPs.
The Parliamentary Group (PG) of the People's National Congress (PNC) on Wednesday decided to submit a no-confidence motion seeking the removal of Dhiggaru MP Ahmed Nazim from his position as Deputy Speaker of Parliament.
Discussions regarding Nazim’s possible removal first emerged among senior PNC members last month. At the time, Ibrahim Falah publicly denied reports that efforts were underway to dismiss him.
However, during a parliamentary group meeting held at 11:15am on Wednesday, members decided to proceed with the move.
According to several PNC parliamentary group members who spoke to Dhauru, lawmakers agreed to sign and submit a formal no-confidence motion to the People's Majlis.
The decision comes shortly after President Mohamed Muizzu removed Nazim from a WhatsApp group used by the President to communicate directives to PNC lawmakers.
No official explanation has been provided regarding Nazim’s removal from the group.
However, sources familiar with the matter said the effort to remove Nazim from the Deputy Speaker position followed allegations within the party that he had acted against the interests of the President and the government in parliamentary matters.
