The ruling People's National Congress holds two seats in the council.
Meekail secured the MDP nomination for the deputy mayor position after winning the party’s internal primary.
During Sunday’s council meeting, nominations were opened for the post, with Meekail emerging as the only candidate proposed.
The PNC did not nominate a candidate for the position.
As there were no other nominees, the council declared Meekail elected as Deputy Mayor during the session.
