Sri Lanka has introduced a mandatory Electronic Travel Authorisation (ETA) requirement for travellers entering the country for tourism purposes.

In a notice issued on Thursday, the High Commission of Sri Lanka in Maldives stated that all travellers visiting Sri Lanka as tourists must obtain an ETA prior to departure.

According to the notice, the new requirement will come into effect from next Monday.

The application process must be completed online between 24 and 48 hours before travel.

The High Commission further clarified that Maldivian citizens will continue to receive a 90-day tourist visa free of charge under the new system.

The existing visa arrangement for Maldivian travellers therefore remains unchanged apart from the requirement to obtain prior electronic authorisation before departure.
