A suspect wanted in connection with the fatal shooting of two lawyers in Sri Lanka has been arrested in the Maldives and returned to Sri Lanka, according to Sri Lankan media reports.
The victims, a married couple, were shot dead in the Akuregoda area of Colombo on 13 February. Sri Lankan media reported that the lawyers had represented clients in cases involving criminal gangs.
The suspect, who was arrested in the Maldives on Saturday night, is alleged to have driven the vehicle used in the attack.
According to Sri Lankan police, the arrest followed the issuance of an Interpol Red Notice requested by the Thalangama Police Division.

The suspect was arrested in the Maldives and deported to Sri Lanka on Saturday night.

He was taken into custody by officers from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) upon his arrival at Bandaranaike International Airport.

He was later handed over to the Western Province South Crimes Division for further investigation.
Reports identified the suspect as a 23-year-old Sri Lankan national.
Sri Lankan media also reported that he has previous criminal convictions and was arrested twice last year on drug-related offences before being released after paying fines.
The investigation into the killings remains ongoing.
