Abdullah Nazim Ibrahim, who resigned as Minister of Health in April, has been appointed to a ministerial-level position at the President’s Office.

Nazim has been appointed as Principal Secretary to the President on Policy and Manifesto, according to information released on Thursday.

He served as Minister of Health until 14 April, when he stepped down during a cabinet reshuffle carried out by President Mohamed Muizzu.

Nazim's resignation came after the President requested his departure to facilitate the appointment of a new Health Minister. The changes followed losses suffered by the ruling party in local council elections and a national opinion poll held earlier that month.

Before becoming Health Minister, Nazim served at the President’s Office as Principal Secretary to the President on Public Policy. He was appointed to that position shortly after President Muizzu assumed office in November 2023.

Nazim also served as Deputy Campaign Manager for the former PPM-PNC coalition during the 2023 presidential election campaign.

Nazim was among 10 cabinet ministers who left their posts during the April government reshuffle.

While some former ministers were reassigned to other cabinet portfolios, others did not immediately receive new appointments.

In recent weeks, the government has begun assigning several former cabinet members to diplomatic and administrative positions.

Among those appointments:

  • Adam Shareef Umar is expected to take up the role of Ambassador to the United Arab Emirates.

  • Thoriq Ibrahim is expected to be appointed Ambassador to Qatar.

Nazim’s appointment marks his return to the President’s Office less than two months after leaving the cabinet.
