Policeman under probe over sexual abuse of minor

Police have launched an investigation into allegations that a police officer sexually abused a minor.

According to the Maldives Police Service, the case was reported on 1 June and involves allegations of sexual abuse committed by an individual in a position of trust.

A Police Media Official confirmed that a serving police officer is the suspect in the case.

The criminal investigation is being conducted by the Family and Child Protection Department.

In addition to the criminal inquiry, the Police Professional Standards Command has initiated an administrative review into the conduct of the officer concerned.

Police have not released further details about the case, citing the ongoing investigation and the need to protect the identity of the minor involved.

No information has been provided regarding any disciplinary measures taken against the officer while investigations continue.

Authorities said both the criminal investigation and the internal review remain ongoing.
